📰 How do we become whole in a fragmented world?

by Kona Lisa Mahu

Across cultures, generations, and belief systems, human beings have always wrestled with profound questions.
What gives life meaning?
What connects us to one another?
What happens when the beliefs we inherited no longer seem sufficient for the experiences we are having?
What helps us feel whole when our lives, communities, and world often feel fragmented?
For some, these questions emerge through moments of wonder, love, beauty, and connection. For others, they arise during periods of loss, transition, uncertainty, or change. Some encounter them through religion, philosophy, science, art, nature, or personal experience. Regardless of where they begin, these questions seem to accompany the human journey itself.
At the Center for Planetary Management, we have discovered that meaningful growth often begins not with answers, but with better questions. Questions invite exploration. Questions expand awareness. Questions create space for new possibilities to emerge. While answers may differ across cultures, traditions, and individual experiences, the search for meaning is something humanity shares.
The Spiritual Meaning-Making section of Planetary Pulse is dedicated to that exploration. Here, we invite readers to engage questions of purpose, identity, conscience, spirituality, ethics, connection, and human development. Rather than promoting a single religious perspective or worldview, this space welcomes thoughtful inquiry into the many ways human beings seek understanding and make meaning of their lives.

What happens when we encounter ideas that challenge our assumptions?

What happens when we discover wisdom in unexpected places? What happens when we allow ourselves to ask questions we were once afraid to ask?

These are not new questions. Yet in a rapidly changing and increasingly interconnected world, they may be more important than ever.

It was in this spirit of inquiry that we invited Theresa Marks to share her work on the Spiritual Bill of Rights. Theresa’s contribution begins with a simple but powerful premise: every human being possesses certain spiritual freedoms, including the freedom to seek truth, explore meaning, follow conscience, and engage their own spiritual journey. In many ways, her work offers a foundation for the kind of exploration this section hopes to encourage—a reminder that authentic growth requires both curiosity and the freedom to ask sincere questions.

As you explore the articles, interviews, and conversations in this section, we invite you to bring your own questions with you. Some may lead to answers. Others may lead to deeper questions. Both are valuable. The goal is not agreement, certainty, or conformity. The goal is conscious exploration, personal growth, and a deeper understanding of ourselves, one another, and our place within a larger story.
